Some monkeys are people too

For the first time, monkeys recognize themselves in the mirror, indicating self-awareness

Ah. Now it'll get interesting. How about ego? Then the ability to choose and be aware that you are the chooser. "Freewill" (whatever that is) comes from self-awareness.

What about communication? If you are self-aware, you will have some idea of 'a relationship' between you -- the self -- and your environment. There may be others (perhaps also self-aware) in that environment -- so how is information coded and exchanged? And how is received information interpreted?

What about moral choice? At some level self-awareness becomes self-preservation, or profit-seeking behaviour. (Freewill)

If monkeys are self-aware, I wonder how we humans appear to them?
